COLLEGIATE PATHWAYS, INC. PARTNERS WITH ACEAPPLICATIONS, LLC
TO TEACH GIRLS HOW TO CODE
(Orlando, Fla.) During Computer Science Education Week, Dec. 9 – 15, Collegiate Pathways, Inc. partnered with AceApplications, LLC (AceApplications) to participate in the Hour of Code, an event sponsored by the AAUW (American Association of University Women). The objective of the workshop is to emphasize to middle school girls the importance of coding and encourage them to try computer science.
On Wednesday, Dec. 11, 25 girls from Memorial Middle School will learn how to code using iPads as part of Tech Sassy Girlz. Tech Sassy Girlz is an initiative of Collegiate Pathways, Inc., (CPI) a local non-profit established to serve low-income, first generation and underrepresented middle and high school students by providing support and opportunities to participants in preparation for college. CPI provides academic and career guidance and exposure and access to science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields to participants interested in pursuing a degree in higher education.
“The workshop will include a basic overview of coding and how it applies to the common technology we use in everyday life”, said Courtney Powell, President of AceApplications. Also, a mobile app developed by AceApplications will be demonstrated and the “girlz” will gain insight on how smart phone applications are created.
This free workshop was held at Memorial Middle School (2220 West 29th Street, Orlando, FL 32805) from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m.
